Designed to be worn as an insulative layer under a waterproof jacket like the Norvan SL, the Gaea and Argus SL Vest brings two decades of experience in innovative apparel design at ARC’TERYX to bear on the problem of keeping committed mountain runners warm in cold, wet weather.
Created by runners to provide thermal performance without sacrificing airflow, the new vest is incredibly light (60g women’s and 70g men’s) and powerfully functional. Combining measured insulation with exceptional air permeability, it manages the small shifts in temperature encountered on long trail runs.
A 7d rip stop nylon shell with DWR-treated front face fabric ensures wind resistance without a loss of air permeability. With front and back panels filled with 40g CoreloftTM — a synthetic insulation which continues to offer warmth, even when wet — the Gaea and Argus SL Vest promise comfort to runners during highly aerobic activities in temperatures as low as 4C/40 F°, without sacrificing breathability.
Foregoing insulation in the vest’s side panels safeguards the wearer against overheating. The vest’s full-zip design makes it easy to ventilate with one hand, despite its zipper slider being designed to prevent inadvertent opening.
While wearing the Argus or Gaea SL Vests, elasticized trim at the hem and sides keep the vest in place as runners navigate technical terrain. And when temperature change demands it, the vest can be tucked away in its integrated stow pocket and stored in a running vest or the pocket of a jacket.
